Microsoft Golf and Me

Back in 1995 I was an electronic technician fixing TV’s and VCR’s in Laramie, Wyoming. My group of friends at the time was obsessed with a golf game from Microsoft. There were seven of us but only three had computers. Needless to say the three with the computers dominated the rest of us. My competitive nature couldn’t let that go on uncontested any longer. My girl friend and I traveled 60 miles to a Best Buy in Ft. Collins Colorado to purchase a top of the line computer and Microsoft Golf. At the time the computer ran on the new windows 95 platform and had a full 1 gigabyte hard drive and I spent extra for a total of 250 megabytes of ram. It was a screamer. The purchase did allow me to dominate (obsessively) my friends at the golf game, but more importantly it shined a light on a new career. I became obsessed not only with the golf game but with the computer itself. Today it’s been fourteen years since that first purchase and it led to a B.S. I.T. degree, obtaining the lead programing position at work, designing and programming control systems in the oil and gas industry, operating two e-commerce websites and most importantly marrying that girl friend. The lesson here is exploring games can point you towards your dreams.
